With AI showing up in the southern states of the country, those states are requiring AI certification along with the standard NPIP certification. To certify our flock for AI is costly here in Michigan.  We have opted not to do that certification because we are a small farm.

Hopefully the AI requirement will be lifted and we can send eggs/chicks to all states, but until then we wish to let you know shipping is limited.

Thank you so much,

It was a cold 21 degrees yesterday when we had a date to NPIP test a beautiful flock of birds near Reed City. 66 birds tested from peafowl, pheasants, and chickens.  It was a challenge to keep the antigen from getting too cold and the flock owner had a nice propane heater to help.

Fivewire Farm has been selling hatching eggs locally.  We also have some pre-orders for chicks, so our incubator is currently full with Iowa Blue, Chantecler, Isbar, Cream Legbar, and Olive Eggers.  They will be here around the 24th.  We hatch to order.  I am excited each time we load up our cabinet incubator and think about the first loud "cheep" we hear from a newly hatched chick.

Other than that, we had a mild winter for the most part.  Looking foward to our spring weather.  March came in like a "lion" lets hope it doesn't go out that way too.

Two of my grand children celebrated birthday's in the last two weeks.  So much fun!  They grow up way too fast though.
Another year drawing to a close.  Our family will be getting together to share Christmas on Sunday.  Happy New Year and Happy Holiday's to our customers!  Brett and I are looking forward to firing up the hatcher and collecting hatching eggs to ship for 2017.  We hope you have a blessed holiday and happy new year!
It has been a long spring and summer for our small farm.  We have added two more Iowa Blue breeding enthusiasts this year.  One in southern Indiana and the other in Western Michigan.  We are also very happy with the hatching of the Iowa in seeing more and more of the chestnut down color chicks!  Even though we are not experienced with genetics, we are doing something right! Here is a photo of our hen Brownie. She will be one year old this month.  We have had great success with our Chantecler breeding pen as well.  We also added Ancona ducks, Crested Cream Legbar, Sapphires, and a beehive to our small farm this year!  Enjoy the photos.
The hatcher has a variety of eggs from our flock.  We have some Iowas, Chantecler, and some Chantecler Mix, Cream Legbar/Bielefelder mix ready to hatch.  So far we have 6 our of 18 eggs hatched.  Today He is Risen!  Spending the day with our children and grand children.

Fivewire Farm is dedicated to chicken breed preservation to get the birds as close to what the historical standard was established.  The stock is not going to be "show" quality birds.  We would hope that all that wish to purchase our stock is looking to continue the highest quality breeding practices in order to preserve the best hardiness, personality, and usefulness possible.
We are a small hobby farm where only small amounts of hatching eggs or 10 to 25 chicks can be sent at a time.  Most likely there will be a wish list or waiting list to purchase stock.  Our pricing is not to make money on the birds, but to cover any costs in hatching or packaging the stock as well as shipping.  Please contact us for pricing via our inquiry page. Thank you very much for visiting!
